Yes to some extent - you might as well deny there are genes for intelligence.
besides - you cant have it both ways - I hear so often people arguing against religious people saing "it's a choice" and now all of a sudden we have them arguing with a doctor (maybe religious too I dont know) saying that it is genetic (ie not a choice).

I read somewhere recently that they sent some kids who had "learning differculties" to new schools saying they were gifted... so the new kids needed extra attention etc as they bored easily...
these kids with "learning differculties" did amazingly well and the new schools never thought at all that these kids were anything but gifted...
genes?
an anecdote does not make a rule !
Expectations of course matter also as does how you measure intelligence (or maybe gayness for that matter)
