movie marathon

Movie and TV marathon

Paycheck - interesting basic scenario
there is a man who is paid to reverse engineer products and have his mind wiped - he invents a time machine (or reverse engineers it - whatever). then it gets lame. Apparently people in the future find out about their future and find that there is war and disease in their future. apparently the US government is much dumber than Affleck and it decides to make everythign bad come true. Affleck explains that that is what happens if you loose the mystery.
Now maybe americans are stupid, but that stupid? I think not.
Besides that - did he ever stop to think that bad as that future might be maybe the government was avoiding something worse....
Oh well - the rest of the movie was a poor prop for the weak ending to what was a good setup.

Southpark
Imaginationland is their latest series - quite good. Southpark never fails to provide light entertainment

Dexter
A tv series about a guy who murders serial killers. It is a great series. I think the writers are starting to run out of ideas a bit because they are starting to sacrifice dexters cold evil but good brillience in favour of exploring his feelings. I think that makes for some good episodes but it drains the capital that they built up earlier on.

Doctor who
always good for a watch - it is still a bit of a kids show as it always was. Still they had a good showdown with the darleks and the cybermen and finally the master. Well thought out story lines and not cringe worthy unlike paycheck.

Robinhood
Always a god storyline - and yet not a serious enough rendition for me.

Stargate/Stargate Atlantis
Rather like Dr who - its always good for a watch, Dr who is a better premise but this one is probably put together a bit better. I like stargate a bit mroe than stargate atlantis because it seemed to take itself a little mroe seriously.

fantastic 4 rise of the silver surver
ok apparently the silver surfer just turns on galacticus the devourer of worlds - and beats him with one shot - now that's crazy. And apparently silver surfer gets his power from his board... anyway the movie is ok for a watch.

Diehard 4.0
Excellent movie - now if china will just catch a hint and do a fire sale on the US.... hehe

transformers
robots smashing eachother up - I'm in little boy heaven. who needs a storyline - but strangly they actually gave it one - and it didnt entirely suck..

the bourne ultimatum
hmm I fell asleep..

the simpsons movie
very light entertainment. Its liek the simpsons tv programe - you cna watch it if you want to waste an hour or two but it wont get you excited.

1408
evil room tries to drive man insane so he will kill himself. man kicks rooms ass.
Not to bad for a mindless horror film.

the reaping
hmm an interesting biblically based movie. Strange that god would set up a funny ending like that but I guess it all goes under the 'god moves in mysterious ways' thing.

Good luck chuck
ok if you want to see whats her name that hot chick - otherwise jsut a soppy love story movie where the hot guy get the hot girl.. yeay....

NRT mistakes police for entire Justice system then asks for it to resign

NRT apparently thinks that the police should resign if they apply for charges to be laid and the next stage in the process decides not to proceed with the charges.

I hardly think it needs to be said but that is ridiculous. Police are not Solicitor-generals or Attorney Generals. Apparently NRT has mistaken the police for our entire legal system - something he of all people should know is ridiculous.

First this group did obviously have a prima face case against them (training camps etc). There is of course a policy aspect to laying terrorism charges as well as the social stigma aspect he seems to allude to - but that is not the polices job to worry about - the system already has that covered by putting the Solicitor-generals/ Attorney General in the middle.

DPF then makes the mistake of
1) implying that terrorism charges are 'normal charges' (yes charges may normally proceed but not normally proceed on terrorism charges)
2) assuming that the number of police is somehow proportional to the probability of guilt of the people.

Using lots of police with big guns etc is all about security for the police not about evilness of hte peopel being arested. bottom line is that it is just not smart to go in to arrest people in that area if your one police officer by yourself least of all if you are trying to arrest people who you know have been training in a camp and have more than the usual arsenal of weapons.
